A Tradition Re-Invented
Once upon a time, before machines took over our lives, people made things by hand. They used nothing but their own hands and skills to produce prized and valued works of art.
In an effort to work within--yet expand upon--that tradition, I am making and selling hand-made toys. My only real concession is to use modern materials. But I make these toys by hand without the assistance of a sewing machine. While the stitching may not have the mechanical perfection of a machine, this human imperfection gives each toy a personality one may not find in mechanically produced toys.
While the characters are recognizable, these toys are created with original designs. Some are based upon tradional characters, like bears, while others use more modern characters, like robots. This follows with the philosophy of combining the old techniques with new ideas and materials in producing something original and uncommon.
Since the toys are hand made, each creation is a unique work of art. I've used a technique of Impressionist Embrodery to produce attractive and interesting designs while keeping the time costs low enough to produce affordable toys. Yet, since these toys are hand made, the number of toys that can be produced during a year is limited which could serve to increase the collectability of the toys and their appreciation over time.
Although the real goal of any toy is to be loved.
